Dr. Schmidt

Dr. Alexandra C. Schmidt, MD/MS is a Board-certified plastic and reconstructive surgeon with years of experience in private practice. She grew up in a medical family and from a very young age was captivated with the transformative power of plastic surgery. At the age of 10, she decided to become a plastic surgeon and never wavered in her commitment. To this day, she remains in awe of the physical changes that can be achieved through plastic surgery, but now she understands that the most profound transformations occur beneath the surface. True transformation happens in the mind and soul, enhancing confidence and aligning the outward appearance with the inner self. Dr. Schmidt’s dedication to her patients is driven by her belief in the holistic impact of plastic surgery.

Dr. Schmidt is a proud member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) and The Aesthetic Society, demonstrating her commitment to maintaining the highest professional standards and keeping abreast with the latest surgical techniques. She received her education and training at some of the world’s top programs, earning her bachelors and masters degrees from Johns Hopkins University, her MD from Vanderbilt University, and completing her residency at Washington University in St. Louis (WashU). At WashU, she was part of one of the oldest and most prestigious Integrated Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery programs in the country.

After residency, she was selected for a highly competitive and rigorous aesthetic surgery fellowship endorsed by The Aesthetic Society where she received additional training specifically tailored to achieving the best results for breast, body, and facial aesthetic procedures. During her fellowship, she worked alongside one of the innovators of body contouring surgery, Dr. Joseph Hunstad, and is uniquely qualified to help massive weight loss patients navigate challenging peri-operative decisions to reduce risk and ensure life-changing results. She also has a special interest in facial rejuvenation procedures including facelifts, necklifts, and eyelid surgery and this is a large part of her practice today.

She grew up in Vermont’s Upper Valley and now lives near Burlington with her husband, two sons, Vizsla Nelson, and flock of chickens. When not operating, she enjoys spending time with family, reading, CrossFit, hiking, and traveling. She has dual citizenship, in the US and Switzerland, and speaks French fluently.

Dr. Schmidt is amazing! From the moment I walked in the office doors she was so helpful, knowledgeable, thoughtful, and skillful. She did a great deal of research and connected with peers to consult on my case. When I was diagnosed with Lyme 6 weeks before my procedure, Dr. Schmidt left no stone unturned when it came to ensuring that I would be safe. I am a trans man and I had my top surgery here. Dr. Alexandra Schmidt is truly amazing. I am extremely happy with my results. I've seen a lot of questionable top surgery results in my time, but Dr. Schmidt did a really amazing job with my scars and my nipples. My nipples are healing well and have good blood flow and feeling. She was very good at explaining everything and making me feel comfortable about my recovery and what I've been experiencing. I'm very anxious so the confident reassurance was SO helpful. She was even able to see where I might want potential revisions, which is great because I've seen so many trans men unsure about potential dog ears or swelling because their surgeon couldn't or wouldn't tell them. My only regret is letting anyone make me think I COULD regret this. I feel very lucky and happy with my body now. I cannot say that enough

For so many years I had contemplated breast reduction surgery to help with my severe back and chest pain but was too nervous. One of my biggest reservations was potentially losing the ability to breastfeed since I didn't have kids yet. After I was told by multiple doctors I'd be unable to have children of my own, I decided it was time to go for the reduction! Dr. Schmidt did an amazing job and was very thorough during the entire follow up process. I was especially thankful for her expertise and comfort during post-op recovery. She is knowledgeable and very personable which made the whole thing a lot less intimidating! As luck would have it, I found out soon after my surgery I was pregnant! I am happy to report that I've successfully been able to breastfeed, and (although I've gone up a couple bra sizes again with the baby) I am so thankful my 'baseline' started from a smaller size than it would have been without the surgery. It allowed for more comfort during the pregnancy. I am forever grateful for Dr. Schmidt's work and would highly recommend her to anyone considering surgery!

I wanted to let everyone know about my great experience I had with Dr. Alexandra Schmidt. I needed surgery to correct my upper eyelids because they were beginning to impair my vision, so I decided to do something about it. I met with Dr. Schmidt for a consult and was glad I did. She immediately put me at ease while explaining the procedure. During the consult she said I would be a great candidate for this type of surgery, and I should see an amazing result. The actual procedure took about an hour and was performed under local anesthesia. I was able to drive home shortly after the surgery and was working from home the following day and back in the office the following week. I couldn't believe how easy the whole process and procedure was and with little to no pain. I am extremely glad that I made the call.

I recently got chin liposuction with Dr. Alexandra Schmidt. Her and the entire staff were amazing! I am 25 years old and I have ALWAYS have been self conscious about my "double chin." I have had pocket of fat under my chin since I was young & lean and it increasingly got more visible with age. I did my procedure with IV sedition therefore I was not asleep - which made me nervous at first, but Dr. Schmidt and her team answered all my questions and made me feel so at ease. I was so comfortable during the whole procedure! The entire surgery from start to finish was seamless and very quick! I was in minimal pain, and only needed pain medicine for the evening after surgery. Dr. Schmidt actually called me after surgery to see how I was feeling! I was so impressed!
